The skin from crocodiles has long been recognised internationally as a highly durable leather of great individual beauty as a finished product (supple, yet durable and the skin's small, even belly scales). Each skin has its own individual pattern enabling every piece to be totally unique.

Saltwater crocodile skin is known in the leather industry as 'Singapore small scale' and has become the elite skin of the crocodilians. The porosus skin is renowned for its small scale size, also the belly of this species is devoid of osteoderms or "buttons" which are floating bone inside the skin. Crocodilians such as Alligators, Caimans, and Freshwater crocodiles all have varying percentages of osteoderms within the belly skin. Osteoderms within the skin reduce the quality of the finished leather by reducing the flexibility and creating an uneven dye uptake within the skin.

A crocodile belly skin is trimmed so that the entire belly, throat and leg pattern is removed in one piece, this is achieved by removing the backstrap, the boney scute pattern down the animals back. Once the skin has been removed from the animal, the skin is water jet blasted to remove any excess flesh and dipped in an antimicrobial agent. The skin is drained and salted then re-salted 24hours later. The skin is then rolled and stored in a chiller until sale.

Raw skins (wet salted) are produced primarily for export. 1st grade skins are primarily sold to directly to tanneries supplying elite brands such as Hermes for use in manufacturing their premium priced crocodile handbags. Some of the most expensive brand handbags in the world are made from CFNT Crocodylus porosus skins. At retail, the cost of the finished products can range into tens of thousands of dollars.

All of our raw (wet salted) skins are forward sold on long term contracts. Please do not contact us regarding supply of skins at this time. We do have contract tanned a limited number of 2nd grade belly skins which are available for sale in our Shop
